Checking a villa listing before a summer trip

Late July, the start of the summer holiday season.
Seven of us, all friends in our thirties, got together to plan a four-day, three-night trip to Ho Chi Minh City.
From the beginning, the concern was not 'where to go and what to do', but rather 'where to stay?'.

The more I searched, the deeper my doubts grew, 'Does a pool villa really exist?', 'What if there's no accommodation available suddenly in the local area?', 'They said there was a karaoke room, but what if there's only a microphone left when I actually go?'
The worry of 'What if I get scammed?' naturally arose.

In fact, looking at reviews on Naver Knowledge, cafes, blogs, and communities, there were quite a few posts like 'I booked through an agent but there was no accommodation', 'Canceled due to Airbnb being blocked', 'It was completely different from the photos and I was shocked.'

That’s how we came across ITDANG.

When the article was written, ITDANG was described as a registered Korean travel agency working with around 70 or more directly operated, branded and partner pool villas in Ho Chi Minh City. I found plenty of reviews on blogs, community forums and Instagram. The quick, clear replies to my KakaoTalk enquiry were reassuring.

"We're seven people, and we're going with friends. Karaoke is really important to us," I said, and they immediately recommended a place called 'Scat Villa' in Thao Dien District 2 of Ho Chi Minh City.

Scat Villa, I was a little suspicious at first…

• Seven guest rooms and eight bathrooms, including five en-suite bathrooms
• Capacity: up to 14 guests
• Medium-to-large pool, with swim rings and life jackets included
• Dedicated soundproofed karaoke room with a Korean-style system and mirror ball
• The barbecue service described included preparing the meat, grilling and cleanup.
• Daily cleaning + towel change + amenity provision
• Walk 1 minute to a supermarket / 10 minutes to local delicacies / jazz bar next door

It sounded perfect just from the description, but I still thought, "Is this really everything?" until we arrived.

But when I actually arrived there?

It was really true. Exactly as the photo, or even better than the photo.
The road in front of the pool villa is wide, and the surrounding environment is clean and upscale.
As soon as we walked in, we saw the open living room, guest rooms with touches of colour and carefully arranged lighting.

All the options we had booked were prepared without missing a single one.
From this point on, my worry about a 'pool villa scam' completely disappeared.

The points we actually worried about were resolved like this.

1. 'Is the accommodation really there?'

ITDANG is a Korean travel agency with a formal business registration.
The local team responded in real time, and I could check everything on KakaoTalk, from the contract to the booking confirmation.
ITDANG even picked us up on arrival, which gave me even more confidence in the arrangements.

2. “Does it really have a proper karaoke setup?”

Yes, there really was a proper karaoke setup.
It was a separate soundproofed room with a Korean karaoke machine, quality speakers and a mirror ball, well beyond simply plugging a microphone into a TV.
Our friends sang loudly and had the best atmosphere as they took turns.
However, we were advised to refrain from using it after 10pm due to noise issues, so we made the most of it until 9:30pm and tidied up properly.

3. 'Is the pool decent?'

Spacious, with swim rings and life jackets included.
We swam all day from morning to night.
Switching on the lights at night gave the pool a whole different mood. A swim followed by a beer in the living room was enough to make the day feel complete.

4. “Is it really big enough for all of us to hang out together?”

Even with seven people each in their own rooms, there was still enough space for everyone to sit together in the living room.
The layout connects the living room and kitchen, making it convenient to prepare food while chatting, and after setting up a BBQ, we grilled meat on the rooftop terrace while enjoying the night view of Ho Chi Minh City.
The key to making the trip comfortable even when staying together was this sense of space.

What we actually did over four days and three nights

Thursday: Arrive at the airport → ITDANG vehicle pickup → arrive at Scat Villa, tidy up luggage and do grocery shopping → have dinner at a seafood restaurant, then karaoke + one beer on the terrace in the evening.

Friday: cleaning and fresh towels, swimming in the morning and café visits in the afternoon. In the evening we had a barbecue and sang karaoke, finishing before 10 p.m.

Saturday: Walk along the riverbank park → have lunch at a local rice noodle soup restaurant, in the afternoon play board games + use the pool, evening meal via Grab delivery + finish off on the terrace.

➡ It is possible since it's a private room, but it's better to refrain from making noise after 10 PM due to noise issues.

Q. Is this property real? How do I know it isn’t a scam?

Q. Is it not far from the city center?
➡ It takes 15 minutes to the 1st district, and 35 minutes to the airport. Grab is also easy to catch.

Q. Can several people use it at the same time?
➡ The villa accommodates up to 14 people. The seven of us had plenty of room.

Q. Are food delivery and grocery shopping available?
➡ There is a supermarket within a 1-minute walk / Grab delivery is also fine.

Q. Is there a discount?
➡ It varies depending on the season and number of people, so we recommend consulting with ITDANG.

Such worries, we were full of them until departure.
But after actually arriving and seeing it, I realized those worries were just unnecessary anxiety.

Trustworthy booking place + real high-end pool villa = It was a meaningful summer because we were with ITDANG's Scat Villa friends, and this space was what completed that memory.
