Hotel or private villa for a golf trip? The Starfield example
The article compares hotel-style service with sharing a villa on a group golf holiday.

When choosing accommodation for a golf trip, the topic that always comes up is whether a hotel or a pool villa is better.
Hotels have the strengths of clean service and stable facilities, while pool villas offer the advantages of privacy and flexible space usage.
We also spent a long time thinking about it until departure.
The number of people for this trip is 10.
Since the goal was to spend time playing golf in the day and having meals and parties together at night, we placed more emphasis on the space where everyone could gather and the degree of freedom rather than the convenience of a hotel.
At that time, the place recommended through ITDANG was the Starfield Villa in Thao Dien, Ho Chi Minh City 2nd District.

📍 Starfield Villa at a glance
- Location: Thao Dien, Ho Chi Minh City 2nd District (a high-end residential area known as the French district of Ho Chi Minh City)
- Eight guest rooms and seven bathrooms, five of them en-suite
- Maximum occupancy: 16 guests
- Pool: Large, spacious enough for group use
- Special facilities: a golf practice area described in the original as unique among Ho Chi Minh City pool villas, a barbecue space and a Korean-style karaoke system.
- Service: Daily cleaning, towel change, shampoo, body wash, and one-time-use toothbrush provided
- Dogs allowed: yes, with an additional fee.

The points we were worried about, resolved like this
1. Is it possible to have hotel-level service?
Although a pool villa usually has the image of being 'self-service', the Starfield Villa had daily cleaning, towel changes, and amenity refills.
The rooms were consistently kept neat, like at a hotel, so we had no trouble there.

2. How to practice golf?
This is where Starfield Villa’s distinctive advantage became clear.
Out of all the pool villas in Ho Chi Minh City, this one was the only one with a dedicated golf practice space.
The day before the round, I was able to loosen up my body, and on the day of, I could also adjust my shot feel briefly.
That would have been impossible if it were a hotel.

3. Is there a space where 10 people can gather?
The spacious living room, large garden and pool let everyone gather for dinner and conversation each evening.
Staying together instead of scattering across hotel rooms made the trip feel much more like a shared experience.

4. Can we freely have meals or parties?
There were two Korean restaurants within a 3-minute walk in Thao Dien, making it convenient to get meals, and we could grill meat using the villa's BBQ facilities and enjoy parties late into the night.
In a hotel, you would have to adjust to room service or restaurant hours, but here we could set our own schedule.
Surrounding Infrastructure & Accessibility
- Korean restaurant: three minutes on foot
- Local Cafe: 5-minute walk
- Local Restaurant: 7-minute walk
- Airport: 35 minutes by car
- 1st District City Center: 15-minute drive
- Places to go: atmospheric cafés in Thao Dien, restaurants serving Vietnamese home cooking and places known for chicken phở.

Frequently Asked Questions – Answers from experienced travelers
Q. Can I bring my dog?
→ It is possible, but there is an additional fee and prior inquiry is essential.
Q. Can we use the karaoke room until late?
→ The soundproofing is good so there's no problem in the evening, but we recommend restraint after 10pm.
Q. How is the mart and delivery?
→ There is a mart within walking distance, and Grab delivery is also smooth.
Q. Is it okay to go with my parents?
→ Thanks to the elevator and wide corridors, it is comfortably usable.
Conclusion – Reasons for choosing a pool villa instead of a hotel
The comfort provided by the hotel is definitely appealing.
On this trip I realised how much privacy and freedom a pool villa could offer, and how well the arrangement worked for a group.
Especially for a golf trip, the combination of a golf practice area + a large pool + a big living room is absolutely impossible in a hotel.
Four days at Starfield Villa: ten people laughing, eating, playing and practicing together.
For us, the pool villa was an obvious answer, and this choice seems unlikely to change for our next trip as well.
